Starting in January 2024, the Fremont Corn Expo and the Nebraska Soybean Day & Machinery Expo have been combined into 1 expo.

The expo will focus on both crops & will rotate between Saunders & Dodge County locations yearly.

Save the Date - Eastern Nebraska Corn & Soybean Expo

We've combined the Fremont Corn Expo and the Nebraska Soybean Day & Machinery Expo into one expo...the Eastern Nebraska Corn and Soybean Expo. The expo will focus on both crops and will rotate between Saunders and Dodge county locations each year.

The 2024 expo will take place on Thursday, January 25 at the University of Nebraska Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center located at 1071 County Road G, Ithaca, NE. The program will kick off at 8:30 a.m. and will finish up at 3:00 p.m.

The event opens with coffee, doughnuts and the opportunity to view equipment and exhibitor booths at 8:30 a.m. Speakers start at 9:10 a.m.

Aaron Nygren, Nebraska extension educator says, “The Eastern Nebraska Corn and Soybean Expo will assist producers in planning for next year's growing season. We hope you come and learn from a variety of speakers and vendors about important topics for corn and soybean production in 2024.”

This program is sponsored by Nebraska Extension in the university's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Nebraska Corn Board, and the Nebraska Soybean Board. 

Mike Zuzolo, President  Global Commodity Analytics & Consulting LLC is the keynote speaker. He will speak on “Navigating 2024 Commodity Markets—Funds vs. Fundamentals”.  His presentation will include:  Assessing 2024 Prices For Grains & Cattle - Look At Top 3-5 Drivers; Factors To Focus Upon - U.S. & Global S/D Fundamentals (Micro-Conditions) vs. Funds & Investment Flow Drivers (Macro-Conditions); and Project 2024 “Overvalue” & “Undervalue” Levels For Corn/Soybeans/Cattle Through March 31.

Other timely topics include: A Look Back at 2023 and a Look Ahead into 2024, Eric Hunt, Nebraska Extension Educator of Agricultural Meteorology; Corn and Soybean Disease Update, Tamra Jackson-Ziems & Dylan Mangel, Nebraska Extension Plant Pathologists; Pros and Cons of a Precision Sprayer for Detecting Weeds and Spray Herbicide in Real Time for Weed Management in Corn and Soybean, Amit Jhala, Nebraska Extension Weed Management Specialist; and Drone Spraying, Terraplex Ag.

Updates will also be provided by the Nebraska Corn Board, Nebraska Soybean Board, Nebraska Corn Growers Association and Nebraska Soybean Association.

Producers can visit with representatives from a variety of ag related companies during a 40-minute break at 10:00 a.m.

Complimentary noon lunch will be served.

A Look Back at 2023 and a Look Ahead into 2024

Eric Hunt, Nebraska Extension Educator of Agricultural Meteorology

In this presentation, we first will review the 2023 growing season in Nebraska. This includes the evolution of the drought and some tools to monitor the evolution of the drought. Then we will look at the outlook for the2024 growing season, what possibilities there are for drought improvement in the coming months, how long we can expect El Nino to stick around, and an update on the Weather Ready Farms program.

In Nebraska, corn and soybean diseases consistently influence crop yields. This update will delve into the spectrum of diseases affecting field crops, with a focused exploration of the escalating threat posed by Tar Spot to corn. Additionally, we will examine the implications of White mold and soybean cyst nematode on soybeans, shedding light on their impact and strategies for mitigation.

Pros and Cons of a Precision Sprayer for Detecting Weeds and Spray Herbicide in Real Time for Weed Management in Corn and Soybean

Amit Jhala, Nebraska Extension Weed Management Specialist

Precision sprayer uses a combination of hardware and deep machine learning to enable intelligent, real-time weed management decisions in the field. Amit Jhala will share his experience evaluating a precision sprayer of Greeneye Technology and John Deere for weed management in corn and soybean. He will share results of the study on how dual tank system of a precision sprayer can help overcome herbicide antagonism and better weed management. Amit will discuss the pros and cons of this new technology.

Information for Exhibitors:

On behalf of Nebraska Extension, we invite you to support local corn and soybean growers through sponsoring and exhibiting at the 2024 Eastern Nebraska Corn & Soybean Expo. The Expo is being held on Thursday, January 25, 2025, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center located at 1071 County Road G, Ithaca, NE 68033.

The event opens with coffee, soy doughnuts and the opportunity to visit exhibitor booths. Presenters include University researchers and specialists and private industry representatives. The expo will also include an update from the Nebraska Corn Board/Nebraska Corn Growers Association and the Nebraska Soybean Board/Nebraska Soybean Association.

 Due to the change in venues, we will not have room for large equipment in the building. We will have limited space for small items (planter units, ATV’s, etc) inside plus room for additional large equipment (tractor, combine, trucks, etc.) parked outside. Exhibitor booths and equipment space are on a first-come basis determined by the arrival of a completed form.

 All equipment exhibitors need to set-up on Wednesday, January 24, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. All other exhibitors can setup between 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24th or Thursday morning, January 25th, from 7:00 – 8:15 a.m.

Exhibitors are encouraged to donate one large door prize that helps gain additional recognition for their business. The door prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the program. Feel free to distribute smaller items such as hats and gloves from your booth.
